A timber merchant in Sarawak placed all of his loose change – RM42 in all, on the number 210380, his sweetheart’s birth date, just before he left again for the forest. It struck first prize in Toto 6D draw no. 1493/99 and made him a whopping RM4.2 million richer. He was informed via a third party phone call from his girlfriend. The irony was he couldn’t collect. He was stranded at his makeshift work site in a remote part of the Indonesian forest. To make matters worse, clashes were on between the native Indonesians in the area. As a last resort, he had to engage eight armed guards to escort him to the Indonesia/Sarawak border through treacherous country. Through it all, he kept telling himself not to take chances, to get home safe, collect the money and enjoy the good life with his loved one. The thought of his Toto win kept him going whenever the journey got too gruelling. In fact, it was his Toto win that encouraged him to brave the dangers, to emerge out of the forest whole and in one piece. Finally, he collected his prize money only on April 17, 13 tortuous days after he won it. He never gave up hope, not once, and so his persistence paid off … handsomely.
